Co-operative Education
My co-op experience during my time at the Gustavson School of Business was different from most of my fellow classmates as I completed all three of my required work terms with the same company, Holy Homous. I had the luxury of going into the program knowing exactly what I wanted to get out of it and what I was going to do after I graduated. I have continued to work for Holy Homous at least once a week throughout my two years at Gustavson and I feel that I have benefited greatly from being able to apply lessons learned in the classroom to the real world on a weekly basis.
Instead of looking for co-op jobs that would give me an opportunity to enhance my skills and experience, I was looking for lessons that I could take from the classroom that would enhance my business. I felt that my understanding of the topics and lessons was helped by the fact that I had a business in mind that I was applying them to. During my elective semester, I was able to choose courses that I thought would apply directly to my work at Holy Homous and I found this to be very effective for my personal learning.

As the second hire at Holy Homous, I have had the opportunity to grow and learn with the company. I started in the kitchen and have worked my way up to handling the Sales and Marketing, while continuing to produce, package, and deliver a consistently delicious and fresh product.

Throughout my time at Holy Homous, I have had the opportunity to work on a number of projects and below is a sampling of some of those activities:
- increased efficiency and capacity of our production facilities through the testing and purchase of a new machine
- increased sales with the addition of Save On Foods as a grocery partner, introducing our products into their five Greater Victoria locations
- creation and implementation of a marketing and communications plan including: social media, branding of the company van, in-store sampling and sales, and sponsorship
- negotiating sponsorship deals with local music festivals including Tall Tree Music Festival and Rifflandia Music Festival
- implementation and reporting of a social media contest and prize give away
- coordination and planning of Vancouver expansion focusing on a sales and marketing plan
